FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 28, 2017
The City of West Kelowna is closing the pedestrian bridge over McDougall Creek beginning Monday, July 31, 2017. The closure will remain in place for at least a week to ensure pedestrian safety during the McDougall Creek Bridge Replacement construction.
The closure is necessary to ensure pedestrian safety as excavation and construction will take place in close proximity to the bridge which is accessed from Shannon Lake Road. The pedestrian bridge will be reopened once it is safe to do so.
The McDougall Creek Bridge replacement is necessary due to the age of the structure and to increase load-bearing capabilities for emergency vehicles.
Shannon Lake Road is fully closed to motorists at the bridge. Motorists and cyclists are asked to use Old Okanagan Highway to access Highway 97 during the closure, which is expected to continue into October.
