FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 02, 2017
The City of West Kelowna is requesting that residents impacted by flood water not pump water from residential properties into City sanitary and/or drainage infrastructure. Due to the historic high Okanagan Lake level and continuing spring runoff activity in local waterways, the City’s wastewater and drainage infrastructure is strained.
Excess water from private property, for instance from flooded basements, should be drained only into natural areas, nearby creeks, lawns or gardens. Water should not be drained into household drains (including toilets, sinks and bathtubs) nor into roadway storm drains.
The City will advise the public when conditions change.
