From West Kelowna Fire Rescue
December 13, 2016
As the temperature drops, lakes and ponds begin freezing over in our region and West Kelowna Fire Rescue reminds residents to stay safe near water areas.
The recommended thickness of ice for safe skating is 15 centimetres for individuals and 20 centimetres for groups, according to the Red Cross.
For more ice safety information, please visit www.redcross.ca.
If you witness someone fall into ice, call 9-1-1 for help immediately.
