Lions Hall to Remain a CommunityRecreational and Event Facility
The City of West Kelowna has committed to maintain the Westbank Lions Hall as a facility that is dedicated to community and recreational events and uses if the building is transferred over to the municipality.
The City of West Kelowna commends Westbank Lions Club volunteers for the excellent job they have done in caring for and running the hall over the past several decades; however, the group wants to move its focus away from managing and maintaining the hall and has approached municipal staff about taking over the facility. One of the stipulations of the transfer is that the facility continues to be used for recreational uses and community events and rentals. Another stipulation is that the municipality honour the current leases with not for profits, including the Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Office and the Westside Youth Centre.
Negotiations are currently on hold while the Canada Revenue Agency reviews the transfer for tax implications. Once negotiations are complete, Council will hold an in-camera meeting to review the contract and determine if the terms will be accepted. If Mayor and Council accept the terms, they will then rise and report at a subsequent public meeting to announce that the City of West Kelowna will be assuming the maintenance and management of the hall, including community bookings.
