Preservation and Promotion

The central objectives of the Agricultural Plan are to help define the city's role with respect to agriculture, identify priority actions necessary to support the viability of farming, taking in the regional context, anticipate future changes and complement the Official Community Plan.

After extensive review and public consultation, City of West Kelowna Council adopted the Agricultural Plan in summer 2011:

  • Background Report on the creation of the plan as presented to Council on October 19, 2010
  • Workshop held with Agricultural Advisory Committee
  • Farm Tour held throughout the City of West Kelowna
  • Hosted Agricultural Community Open House
  • Agricultural Visioning Workshop Coordinated
  • Background materials compiled
  • Water supply and agricultural irrigation practices reviewed

Project Overview

A Request for Proposals was issued February 9, 2010.

Five proposals were received and evaluated by a selection committee comprised of City of West Kelowna planning staff, utilizing the Evaluation Criteria outlined in the RFP. The contract was ultimately awarded to Don Cameron Associates

The Agricultural Plan was funded in part by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of B.C., through programs it delivers on behalf of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Lands.
