West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) has 4 fire halls serving the municipality. The fleet of trucks is comprised of 4 engines, 2 squads, 2 pumps, 1 ladder, 1 rescue and 1 tender. West Kelowna Fire Rescue began as the Westside Fire Protection District, formed in 1981. Since then, the Fire Department has evolved to best respond to an ever increasing number of calls, as the community's population has continued to grow at a rapid pace. In 2011 Fire Fighters responded to 2244 calls. West Kelowna Fire Rescue also has a Service Agreement with the Westbank First Nation to serve Reserves No. 9 and 10. The Fire Department will offer mutual aid, as required, outside municipal boundaries, for incidents such as wildfires.
